NZ firm working on Dubai 2020 Metro build

Gisborne-based NZMEBC member Pultron Composites last year won a significant contract to build diaphragm walls for three out of the four underground stations on Dubai’s EXPOlink 2020 metro extension, and construction is already under way.

Pultron Composites is an industrial technology company that specializes in pioneering smart alternatives for structural materials through the development and manufacture of high performance composite fibre reinforced (’FRP’) components.  The contract was won through the Dubai 2020 tender process and took 18 months from announcement of the project through to design, rfp  and tender award process.

Construction has already commenced using Pultron’s trademarked mateenbarTM  product which is ideal for tunnel construction.   Pultron is a local manufacturer in Dubai with a state of the art facility which helped them to deliver on critical lead times.

Spokesman Omar Rathore-Rayi put the win down to being a local manufacturer and building solid relationships with the joint venture contractor and consultants so they were aware of the benefits of using mateenbarTM GFRP composite rebar for future projects.

“We’ve further benefitted from our relationships formed with the various EXPOlink contractors for other projects around the world.  We have built a reputation for best in class for both product quality and customer service.  We now have projects in countries such as France, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Australia,”  Mr Rathore-Rayi said.

New NZTE appointment to enhance Dubai 2020 communications

The New Head of Communications and Engagement for Dubai 2020, Nicola Garvey, brings extensive international experience to her role, having worked at New Zealand’s UN Mission in New York and acting as spokesperson for the Mission during NZ’s term on the UN Security Council.

Nicola’s role is to work with Commissioner-General Clayton Kimpton and the Government appointed Steering Group comprising Julie Christie and Christopher Luxon to ensure that New Zealand companies are fully aware of the opportunities open to them around the Expo.

Later in the year there will be roadshows around the country and NZMEBC will be facilitating registrations of interest to attend these.  In the meantime all interested NZMEBC members can find out more here.
