NZMEBC Workshop on Changes Affecting Business in the UAE, 22 August 2019
New “Economic Substance Rules” are being enacted in the UAE this year and all NZMEBC members operating in or seeking to operate in the UAE need to be aware of the implications.
The new rules are in response to a European Union initiative to blacklist countries with low or nil tax jurisdictions.
The Council will be holding a workshop on the implications of these changes plus a range of other regulatory developments on Thursday 22 August at 2.30 – 4.30 pm at the offices of EY, Level 9, Takutai Square, Britomart, Auckland.
The workshop will also touch on new VAT rules, options for company set-up, visas and recovering debts.
To register your interest please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
NZMEBC AGM, 22 August 2019
The above workshop will take place immediately prior to the Annual General Meeting of the NZ Middle East Business Council at 4.30pm on Thursday 22 August at the same venue – EY, Level 9, Takutai Square, Britomart, Auckland.
Elections for the NZMEBC Executive Committee, Annual Report from the Chairman and the presentation of Annual Accounts will take place at the AGM.
There will be a call for nominations for the Executive Committee in late July.
NZMEBC Digital Engagement Strategy
NZMEBC is building a more engaging social media presence, firstly on LinkedIn and then on other platforms. The Council has set up a company page and invites you to follow us here.
Following us will help you to stay up to date with the activities of Council members and is your link to upcoming events and other useful materials between newsletters.
If you and your marketing team are active on LinkedIn then you can help us by adding @nzmebc and #nzmebc at the end of any information, pictures or links to articles that you and your business post about doing business in the Middle East. This will broaden both your intended audience to NZMEBC members and introduce the NZMEBC to your audience.
We look forward to seeing you and your business on this new and exciting channel.
MoU with NZ Business Council in Dubai
The newly established NZ Business Council in Dubai chaired by NZMEBC member Andrew Perrier is signing an MOU with the NZMEBC to deliver reciprocal rights to members of both Councils, the NZ Business Council operating in Dubai and the NZMEBC operating in New Zealand.
The MOU will cover areas such as reciprocal access to information, newsletters and attendance at events. All financial members will be updated on this development as soon as the MOU is signed.
NZTE Business Leverage Programme, NZ@EXPO2020
NZTE is working hard to give exporters the best possible opportunity to achieve gains from the Dubai2020 EXPO and is starting with a programme specifically for New Zealand food exporters.
The Discover the Middle East programme is for exporters who have been thinking about business opportunities in the Gulf region and includes a range of sector-based activities linked to major annual trade events in Dubai.
The programme includes in-market elements tailored to business needs, and a mandatory pre-departure programme in New Zealand to help participants make the most of their experience in the Middle East.
NZMEBC will be working with NZTE to deliver a cultural component to the pre-departure programme. Sectors covered in the programme include:
- Food & Beverage
- Māori businesses
In order to participate, companies will need to register with NZTE. Please either contact the customer advisor team on 0800 555 888, or find out more about how NZTE assists companies in growing their business internationally here.
