New Zealand-Middle East Business Council (NZ-MEBC) promotes and facilitates cultural and economic contact, communication, trade, technology transfer, services and investment between New Zealand and the wider Middle East region

NZ-MEBC is a member-driven voluntary organization based in Auckland, New Zealand with board members also located in the Middle East. From a concept nurtured by individual parties with a sense of ‘common purpose’, seeking to more closely integrate New Zealand commerce with the opportunities, networks and cultures of the Middle East region, NZ-MEBC has grown to comprise of larger corporate, various government agencies, diplomatic missions, educational institutions, independent business owners and consultancies. A distinctive feature exhibited by NZ-MEBC members is a declared commitment to a genuine two-way exchange and commercial growth, recognizing the many complementary features across these markets.

Our Mission

The NZ-MEBC holds the following key objectives:

  • To promote contact and communication between business people in New Zealand and the greater Middle East region.
  • To facilitate an increase in bilateral trade, technology transfer, services and investment between the Middle East region and New Zealand.
  • To act as a clearinghouse for information on trade and investment opportunities (both for inward investment to New Zealand from the Middle East and to expand New Zealand business in the region).
  • To widen the contact base of New Zealand traders doing business with the Middle East.
  • To provide a forum for ideas, opportunities and personal contacts that will encourage a greater exchange of trade, commerce, industry, investment, cultural contact and education between the Middle East and New Zealand.
  • To foster a better understanding and appreciation between the business and social communities of New Zealand and the greater Middle East region.
  • To inform members of decisions, activities and trends in the Middle East, of potential significance to trade and commerce.

Our Purpose

The Council promotes and enhances Middle East business contacts and attracts interested parties through a number of initiatives mainly through Middle East and New Zealand networking activities. These activities are built around contacts and knowledge sharing.

Manner in which to achieve the Council’s purpose:

  • By having good speakers, venues and functions (business related, competent subject matter experts)
  • By inviting reputable businessman, politicians, academics, policy makers or other persons of note to address a combined meeting with members of other business associations.
  • By networking in the form of promoting contacts and knowledge sharing.
  • By participating in trade missions/trade fairs in the Middle East region.

Our Objectives

Our short term objectives are:

  • To incorporate the Council with a founding committee
  • To increase membership to 120 (corporates and individuals) with a 40% average meeting attendance
  • To establish a functional website for the Council and to establish on the site, a Directory of Middle East related or associated businesses
  • To have corporate sponsors in place to assist with the activities of the Council (both from New Zealand and from the Middle East)
  • To provide an easy means of information sharing, such as:
    • the publication of a monthly newsletter
    • a functional email alert service to members
  • To have the backing and support and involvement of all Middle East Governments and State trade organisations in the Council
  • To promote trade and investment between the Middle East and New Zealand
  • To promote Middle East business in New Zealand
  • To provide active encouragement for new business people from the Middle East region wishing to settle in New Zealand
  • To prepare an ongoing (six months) list of infl uential speakers who are committed to addressing our monthly meetings
  • To reinforce the ties with other business associations to the benefit of NZ-MEBC members in particular and the Middle East business community in New Zealand as a whole
  • To be involved in visits and trade missions to the wider Middle East region on a regular basis
  • To facilitate formal and informal visits to New Zealand by government representatives, politicians, dignitaries, businessmen etc., from the Middle East region.
  • To have a positive association with New Zealand government agencies such as MFAT, NZTE, etc.
  • To provide cultural ties with the greater Middle East region

Our long term objectives are:

  • To increase membership to at least 150 with a 50% average meeting attendance
  • To form an international association together with other business associations that becomes the catalyst for Middle East overseas businesses interested in operating in New Zealand as well as becoming the vehicle for discussing and negotiating business matters concerning the Middle East with the New Zealand Government.
